Jahn - Estimating
How to estimate quantities for Jahn mortar repairs.
To properly estimate quantity of Jahn mortar needed, total all square footage of deteriorated areas and then multiply by the depth of the repair.
Example: total length X total width X average depth.
Inches cannot be multiplied - you must convert inches to a decimal equivalent as shown in the table below and multiply the square footage times that decimal.

| 7" = .58 | 8" = .66 | 9" = .75 |
| 10" = .83 | 11" = .92 | 12" = 1.00 |
Example: 10'-3 x 22'-0 x 2 converts to:
10.25 x 22 x .17 = 38.34 cubic feet.
This number must be multiplied by 2 to calculate the number of pails needed.
Example: 38.34 cubic feet x 2 = 77 Jahn pails.
Yield: Each pail at 1/2 cubic foot will yield 6 square feet of mortar at a depth of 1 or 12 square feet at 1/2.
For pointing: 198 linear feet for a 3/8-inch joint at 1-inch depth or 220 linear feet for a 1/4 inch joint at 1-inch depth.
